AFF CERTIFICATION JUMP COURSE | SOLO SKYDIVING

Solo & AFF Training Requirements To progress to solo or Accelerated Freefall (AFF) training, you must first complete three tandem skydives with Gateway Skydiving Center. We are selective about who we accept into solo/AFF programs to ensure safety, readiness, and the best possible skydiving experience for every student.

Accelerated Freefall (AFF) Program – Ultimate First Jump Course

The Accelerated Freefall (AFF) program is a structured seven-level training system designed to take you from your first jump to becoming a certified skydiver. Your journey begins with the Ultimate AFF First Jump Course, the essential first step in your progression.

Ground Training:
Before your jump, you’ll complete four to six hours of comprehensive ground training, covering:

  • Parachuting equipment and gear setup

  • Aircraft procedures

  • Emergency procedures

  • Canopy control and landing techniques

Your First Jump:
After training, you’ll make your first jump from 10,500 feet using your own parachute system. Two experienced instructors will accompany you in freefall, flying by your side to provide guidance and assistance during nearly one full minute of freefall.

At 5,000 feet, you’ll deploy your parachute and then steer and land it yourself, with radio assistance from your instructors. This method ensures you experience full altitude on every jump while building confidence and skill.

For your first few jumps, instructors help you maintain stability by keeping grips on your harness, gradually allowing you to take full control as you progress.

Take the first step toward becoming a certified skydiver with Gateway Skydiving Center’s AFF program near St. Louis.

  • Avoid skirts or dresses, as they are not safe for skydiving.

  • Footwear should be secure and comfortable—tennis shoes or sneakers work best.

  • Do not wear boots, flip-flops, sandals, or high heels.
